Monica McKinney is a Professor of Education and Director of Graduate Programs at Meredith College. She holds a Ph.D. and B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.Ed. from Meredith College. Her research focuses on the interplay between culture, schools, and society, with expertise in multilingual learners and placemaking in education. She has directed evaluations for the A+ Schools Program and contributed to DPI’s GOALS 2000 School Improvement Grant. Awards include the Laura Harrill Presidential Award (2008, 2018) and Phi Delta Kappa’s Outstanding Research Award (2000).
Her work includes presentations on teacher action research, placemaking in classrooms, and equity-focused educational practices. Collaborations include the Research Institute for Scholars of Equity (RISE) with NCCU, Duke, and UNCW. She teaches in Meredith’s general education program and Department of Education, emphasizing culturally responsive pedagogy.
