Monica Langiu is a Research Fellow in Drug Discovery Biology at Monash University, specializing in GPCR functions in the brain with a focus on cognition, motivation, and their roles in psychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases. She holds a PhD in Pharmacy from Goethe University Frankfurt and a Master’s in Neuropsychobiology from the University of Cagliari. Previously, she served as an Honorary Research Fellow at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health (2016–2018) and a Research Assistant at Goethe University Frankfurt (2015).
- Education:
- PhD in Pharmacy, Goethe University Frankfurt (2011–2015)
- MSc in Neuropsychobiology, University of Cagliari (2008–2010)
- BSc in Experimental Biology, University of Cagliari (2005–2008)
Her research interests include GPCR pharmacology, cognitive neuroscience, and translational drug discovery for neurodegenerative diseases. She has contributed to projects such as the investigation of sex-dependent signaling of cognition-enhancing drugs (2023–2024) and studies on metabotropic glutamate receptors. Recent publications focus on ligand design for adenosine receptors, therapeutic modulation of GPCRs, and genetic mechanisms in neurodegeneration.
Her work aligns with SDGs addressing health and well-being. She collaborates internationally and has led/co-investigated projects exploring novel treatments for psychiatric disorders. No specific awards are listed, but her active research portfolio reflects significant contributions to the field.
