Jo-Anne Baltos is a Research Fellow at the Victorian Heart Institute (VHI), Monash University, specializing in drug discovery and G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) pharmacology. Her research focuses on adenosine receptor signaling, particularly in neurological disorders like epilepsy and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as cardiovascular applications.
- Current roles: Chief Investigator in two major projects (2022–2027) exploring adenosine A1 receptor modulation for epilepsy treatment.
- Key projects: Developing allosteric modulators for anti-convulsant therapies and investigating adenosine receptor roles in disease pathophysiology.
Research interests include biased agonism mechanisms, structure-based drug design, and translational drug discovery targeting GPCRs. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and innovation.
Recent publications emphasize adenosine receptor ligand design, structure-activity relationships, and receptor signaling in neurodegenerative and cardiovascular contexts. Collaborations span international teams in medicinal chemistry and pharmacology.
