Mohan Ambikaipaker is an Associate Professor and Associate Director of the World Cultures and Literatures Program at the University of Houston (College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Texas - Austin. His research focuses on global antiblackness, racial violence, and the intersection of liberal-democratic systems with racialized state practices, spanning the U.K., U.S., and Malaysia. He combines ethnography and auto-ethnography to critique contemporary diversity discourse in academia and has contributed to journals like Ethnic and Racial Studies and Kalfou.
His 2018 monograph Political Blackness in Multiracial Britain examines racial and state violence among South Asian and African Caribbean communities in London. He co-authored chapters in Antiblackness (2021) and Discourses, Agency and Identity in Malaysia (2022). Currently, he advises the Ford Foundation’s Global Impacts of Anti-Blackness project and has appeared on Emmy-nominated PBS show Blackademics and Malaysian program Consider This.
