Mark Broomfield is an Associate Professor of English and Founding Director of Performance as Social Change at SUNY Geneseo. A scholar-artist, he merges dance performance with critical discourse to address race, gender, sexuality, and social change. His work interrogates black queer masculinity and embodied gender politics through dance ethnography and artistic practice.
Education: PhD in Critical Dance Studies (University of California, Riverside); MFA in Dance (University of Michigan, Ann Arbor).
Research & Projects: His upcoming book Black Queer Dance examines strategic gender performances among Black queer men in dance. His documentary Danced Out explores the lives of Black gay male dancers in NYC. He directs the Performance as Social Change program, which empowers marginalized students through embodied learning and performance.

Teaching & Mentorship: Courses include Performance as Social Change and Writing: Black Masculinities Film, emphasizing critical pedagogy, multicultural competency, and collaborative artistry.
Artistic Background: Performed nationally/internationally with Cleo Parker Robinson Dance and choreographed across the U.S., focusing on socially engaged performance.
