Kyle Abraham is the Claude and Alfred Mann Endowed Professor of Dance Composition, Contemporary, Repertory at the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance since 2021. He is the founding Artistic Director of A.I.M., a contemporary dance company exploring Black and queer narratives. Previously, he served as a visiting professor at UCLA and has held residencies at New York Live Arts, City Center, and Joyce Theater.
Abraham holds a BFA from SUNY Purchase and an MFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, alongside an honorary Doctorate in Fine Arts from Washington Jefferson College. His choreography has been commissioned by Alvin Ailey, New York City Ballet, and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, among others.
His research interests center on cultural identity, queer performance, and the intersection of dance with social narratives. Notable works include Untitled America, The Runaway, and collaborations with artists like Sufjan Stevens and Beyoncé. He has been honored with a MacArthur Fellowship, Princess Grace Awards, and Bessie Awards.
Abraham’s grants and fellowships include the Doris Duke Award and Joyce Creative Residency. His company A.I.M. offers free educational intensives for pre-professional dancers, bridging gaps in dance training. Upcoming projects include the 2025 A.I.M. Homecoming Gala celebrating their 20th anniversary.
