David Colman is an Associate Professor of African American History at Ramapo College of New Jersey, affiliated with the School of Humanities and Global Studies. He joined the college in 2005. His research explores African American social and political movements, race and global affairs, and the intersections of race and labor in U.S. history.

His work critically examines race, labor, and liberalism, with a focus on Detroit's industrial context. Key publications include Race Against Liberalism: Black Workers and the UAW in Detroit (2008), analyzing racial dynamics in the United Auto Workers union, and articles on Cold War-era labor politics. Colman's research bridges local and global dimensions of African American experiences, emphasizing grassroots activism and institutional barriers.
He actively participates in academic discourse, with conference presentations on topics like Hurricane Katrina's sociopolitical impacts and the ethical dimensions of historical scholarship.
