She holds an affiliated appointment at the University of British Columbia in Anesthesiology, Pharmacology, and Therapeutics. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia, M.Sc. degrees from the Razzi Vaccine & Serum Research Institute and the University of British Columbia, and a B.Sc. from the University of Tehran. She is fluent in English and Persian.
Research Interests: Dr. Esfandiarei's research focuses on vascular biology, particularly genetic aortic aneurysms and cardiovascular complications in neurodegenerative diseases. Her work explores mechanisms behind Marfan syndrome-related aortic dysfunction and neurovascular vulnerabilities post-TBI. Techniques used include mouse models, in vivo imaging, and molecular biology.
Grants & Funding: She has secured grants from NIH, the Marfan Foundation, and Midwestern University, supporting projects like endothelial dysfunction targeting in aneurysm models and exercise-based interventions for pediatric Marfan syndrome.
Teaching: Dr. Esfandiarei teaches advanced topics in biomedical sciences, research methodologies, and journal clubs. She supervises laboratory research and thesis projects in her department.
Labs & Collaboration: Her laboratory collaborates with institutions like Phoenix Children's Hospital and the University of Arizona, focusing on translational research in cardiovascular and neurovascular disorders.
