Mitchell Paliga is a Senior Lecturer in Music and Director of the Jazz Ensemble at Lake Forest College. He holds an MA in Jazz Pedagogy from Northwestern University (1999) and a BA in Saxophone Performance from Eastern New Mexico University (1985, with honors).
His career spans performance, composition, and education. As a saxophonist, he tours with Gary Sinise’s Lt. Dan Band since 2007, performing globally including military bases and prestigious venues like the Pentagon and Kennedy Center. Notable performances include the 2012 Chicago Jazz Festival and Vietnam appearances with Kimotion in 2008.
Pedagogically, he focuses on jazz education and has received major grants for study and composition. His recordings include Blithe Moments and Fall Night, featuring over 30 original works. Critics praise his soprano saxophone mastery and compositional creativity.
Awards highlight his contributions: the 2017 Global Music Award for 'QP Doll,' Chicago’s Community Arts Grant, and a NEA grant. His work integrates chromaticism and lyrical phrasing, influencing both performance and pedagogy.
