Mischa Suter

Mischa Suter is an Eccellenza Research Professor at The Graduate Institute since 2021, leading a project on the history of ethnopsychology during decolonization (1930-1980). His work bridges historical anthropology, social history, and critical theory, with a focus on intersections between colonialism, capitalism, and equity issues.

• Education: PhD from University of Zurich (2014), Habilitation from University of Basel (2022)

Research interests include the history of science, European social history, colonialism, and the history of capitalism. His recent monograph Geld an der Grenze (2024) examines monetary systems in imperialism, while previous work explored indebtedness in liberal capitalism.

Recent publications analyze colonial currencies as instruments of power, Fanon's critiques of colonial psychiatry, and moral conflicts around debt in 19th-century economies.
