Miia Mäntymäki is a University Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Helsinki, specializing in Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) and its applications in energy storage and materials engineering. She is a core member of the HelsinkiALD research unit, focusing on thin film coatings for batteries and nanomaterials. Her teaching includes foundational courses such as KEK110 (Basics of Chemistry) and KEK105 (Basic Laboratory Work in Chemistry).
Research interests span ALD of metal fluorides, battery electrode stabilization, and nanotechnology. She has been recognized with awards including the 2021 Teacher of the Year (Department of Chemistry) and the 2010 Nuorten tutkijain tunnustuspalkinto. Her work has been featured in peer-reviewed journals like Advanced Materials Interfaces and Energy & Environmental Materials.
Active in professional activities, Mäntymäki serves on the board of Suomalaisten Kemistien Seura and organizes international conferences such as the AVS International Conference on Atomic Layer Deposition. She also engages in science communication through public talks and educational games like Molekyylivaltti.
