Marianna Kemell is a Senior University Lecturer and Docent in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Helsinki. She leads the HelsinkiALD research group and serves as a supervisor for the Doctoral Programme in Materials Research and Nanosciences. Her research focuses on atomic layer deposition (ALD) applications in energy materials, nanotechnology, and sustainable chemistry.
Her work spans chemical sciences, with notable contributions to photocatalytic materials for solar cells, high-entropy alloys for nuclear applications, and carbon capture using recycled materials. She has secured funding from the Academy of Finland and Niilo Helander Foundation, among others, supporting projects like scalable perovskite solar cell development and nanovaccine research.
- Research Themes: Energy materials, catalysis, nanomaterials synthesis, sustainable manufacturing
- Key Techniques: Atomic Layer Deposition, material characterization, electrochemical analysis
Dr. Kemell has presented her work at major conferences like the International Conference on Atomic Layer Deposition and the Energy LEDARE Workshop. Her research has been highlighted in media for innovations in solar cell coatings and gold recovery from electronic waste.
Current projects include optimizing ALD for stable perovskite solar cells and developing KRAS nanovaccines with selenium nanoparticles. She actively collaborates with international teams on materials for energy and biomedical applications.
