Mieke Prent is an Assistant Professor within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, specializing in Art and Culture, History, and Antiquity. Her research focuses on ancient religious practices, Aegean archaeology, and historical fortifications. She has contributed to significant projects such as the study of Asclepius cults in Messene and the analysis of Early Helladic fortifications in Laconia.
Her scholarly activities include editorial roles for Annual of the British School at Athens and Pharos: Journal of the Netherlands Institute at Athens between 2012–2013. She teaches courses such as Archaeology of Cult and Religion and Society: Lived Religion in Greece and the Near East, bridging theoretical and practical archaeological inquiry.
Prent’s research interests emphasize the intersection of ritual, ideology, and material culture in ancient Mediterranean contexts. Her work on Kastraki Keratitsas revealed insights into Early Bronze Age architectural strategies, while her analysis of Hellenistic deposits in Geraki advanced chronological frameworks for regional studies.
