Walter Gauß is a Senior Academy Scientist at the Austrian Archaeological Institute (ÖAI) in Athens, Greece, leading the Research Group on Historical Archaeology in the Mediterranean. His work focuses on Aegean Bronze Age pottery, stratigraphy, chronology, settlement archaeology, and urban planning. Since 2003, he has been a scientific employee at the ÖAI’s Athens branch and has directed excavations at Aigeira since 2011. His research includes projects like 'Stratigraphy and Finds of the Late Bronze Age Fortification Wall and the ›Lower City‹ of Aigeira' and 'Aegina-Kolonna: From Early Bronze Age to Mycenaean Studies.' He has authored or co-authored over 50 publications, including journal articles, conference proceedings, and edited volumes. His work frequently integrates archaeological fieldwork with scientific analysis, such as ceramic technology and environmental studies.
