Eleni Fassa

Eleni Fassa is an Assistant Professor of Ancient History at the Department of History and Ethnology, Democritus University of Thrace. Her research focuses on Ancient Greek Religion, Hellenistic/Roman history, spiritual Late Hellenism, and Greek/Roman spectacles. She has taught courses on Classical, Hellenistic, Roman, and Late Roman History since 2011.

Her publications, including a monograph on Sarapis’ cult and peer-reviewed articles on divine dedications and spiritual history, highlight interdisciplinary approaches combining epigraphy, religion, and socio-political analysis. She was a recipient of the IKY-ESPA post-doctoral fellowship at the National Hellenic Research Foundation (2017-2019). Her work bridges textual and archaeological evidence to explore religious practices in Greco-Roman provinces.
