Michele Belot is the Frances Perkins Professor of Industrial and Labor Relations and Economics at Cornell University, affiliated with the Department of Economics and the School of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR School). She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Tilburg University (2003) and has held prior positions at the University of Edinburgh, Oxford University, the University of Essex, and the European University Institute. Her research focuses on applied microeconomics, particularly experimental studies in labor, health, and education. Recent work emphasizes interventions using randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in health behavior and job search strategies.
Belot co-directs the Labor Dynamics Institute and co-founded the Cornell Job Search Lab, pioneering experimental research on job search efficiency and labor market dynamics. She has led studies on online job search optimization and dietary habit interventions in low-income populations. Her professional activities include presentations at global institutions such as the University of Toronto, University of Copenhagen, and IZA. Belot also served as President of the European Association of Labour Economists (2020–2023).
Her research spans topics like maternal stress impacts on child diet, wage announcement effects on job seekers, and cognitive biases in memory and discrimination. She collaborates across disciplines, integrating behavioral economics with public policy. Current projects include analyzing structural labor market changes and developing tools to improve job search outcomes.
