Bart K de Koning is a postdoctoral research associate at Cornell University, holding appointments in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations and the Department of Economics, and serves as a Future of Work Fellow at the Labor Dynamics Institute. Based in Uris Hall, he teaches undergraduate courses including "Field Experiments in Economics and Business" for ILR and Economics majors as of fall 2024.
His educational background includes:
- PhD in Economics from Maastricht University (2022)
De Koning's research centers on field experiments in labor economics, specifically examining how expectations and information provision influence human capital investments and labor supply decisions. His work addresses critical issues in job search behavior, education choice dynamics, and labor market policy impacts through rigorous experimental methodologies. He integrates behavioral economics principles to analyze real-world decision-making processes in education and employment contexts.
As a core member of the Cornell Job Search Lab, De Koning leads a major field experiment on online job search behavior, investigating how information interventions affect occupational mobility and employment outcomes. This research demonstrates significant improvements in employment rates and labor income for job seekers receiving alternative occupation suggestions, particularly in structurally weak labor markets.
