Professor Michele Battisti holds the rank of Professor of Economics at the Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow, where he has been since August 2018. Previously, he worked as an assistant professor at the University of Trento (2018) and as an economist at the Ifo Institute for Economic Research in Munich (2012–2017). He earned a PhD in Economics from Simon Fraser University (2012), an MSc in Economics from the University of York (2006), and a BSc in Economics and Social Sciences from the University of Trento (2005).
His research focuses on migration economics, labor markets, applied econometrics, technological change, gender economics, and policy evaluation. He is affiliated with the Applied Economics research cluster at the Adam Smith Business School and collaborates with institutions such as the IZA Research Network and CReAM. Battisti has secured significant grants, including a €1.1 million project from the Norwegian Research Council (2023–2026) and funding from Nesta/AHRC and the Authors Licensing and Collecting Society (ALCS).
Recent work includes studies on the welfare effects of migration, labor market integration of refugees, and the impact of technological change on workers. He has advised on policy issues related to asylum seekers, gender-based violence, and the creative industries. His teaching includes courses on Labor Economics and the Economics of Migration, and he supervises PhD students in applied microeconomics and policy-relevant themes.
