Dr. Michaela Prescott is a Senior Lecturer and Research Fellow at Monash University's Department of Architecture, affiliated with the Informal Cities Lab. She holds a Doctor of Science from ETH Zurich (2017) and Master/Bachelor degrees in Landscape Architecture from RMIT University. Her work focuses on water systems, infrastructure impact, and community-based urban revitalization. She has collaborated internationally, including projects in Indonesia, Singapore, and Australia.
Research Interests include riverine landscapes, informal settlement upgrading, and participatory design methods. Key projects include the RISE program (revitalizing informal settlements), Citarum Action Research Program, and Water for Women initiatives. She has taught at Monash, RMIT, ETH Zurich, and other institutions.
Grants & Projects involve $multi-million research including:
- Revitalising Informal Settlements and their Environments (RISE)
- Citarum Action Research Program (CARP)
- Gender-responsive WASH toolkit development
Awards include shortlisting for the ArchitectureAU Social Impact Award (2023). She has authored 34+ publications on topics like urban river management and community engagement. Current research emphasizes local knowledge integration in river management and climate-resilient infrastructure.
