Professor Tony Wong is a Professor in the Department of Architecture at Monash University and serves as the senior Vice-President (Research) in the Office of the Provost. He also leads the Cooperative Research Centre for Water Sensitive Cities (CRCWSC), with hubs in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Singapore. His expertise spans sustainable urban water management, Water Sensitive Urban Design, and circular economy transitions, with a focus on global environmental challenges.
His research interests include sustainable urban development, climate resilience, and innovative solutions for water management in urban environments. Notable projects include the Indonesia-Australia Citarum Action Research Program (CARP) and studies on health benefits of environmentally sensitive water systems in informal settlements.
Key awards include the 2010 Australia Civil Engineer of the Year, 2017 Excellence in Innovation Award, and 2018 IWA Global Water Award. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to clean water, sustainable cities, and climate action.
Professor Wong has led over 6 major projects and contributed to 133 research outputs since 1983. His leadership extends to coordinating interdisciplinary teams and policy initiatives, emphasizing transdisciplinary research frameworks and global collaboration.
He is actively involved in the CRCWSC and has pioneered initiatives like the Citarum Living Lab, demonstrating community-driven approaches to river revitalization and sustainable urban design.
