Michael Svoboda is an Assistant Professor of Writing at George Washington University's Columbian College of Arts and Sciences. He holds an interdisciplinary PhD from Penn State University and researches the intersection of rhetoric, climate communication, and political psychology. Since 2010, he has contributed to Yale Climate Connections and curates its monthly bookshelf.
Research Focus: Michael bridges ancient Greek rhetorical analysis with contemporary environmental discourse. His courses include 'Communicating Climate Change' and election-year offerings like 'The Political Brain,' which examines social-psychological foundations of political identity. Current projects analyze how popular culture shapes climate change narratives within American politics.
Leadership: Former director of GW's Sustainability Minor program and faculty affiliate of the Global Food Institute. Publications span journals including Environmental Communication, Rhetoric Review, and WIREs Climate Change.
