Michael Schirra is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geoscience at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). His research focuses on magmatic-hydrothermal ore-forming processes, leveraging fluid/melt inclusions and advanced analytical techniques. He holds a PhD from ETH Zürich and academic degrees from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
Education:
- PhD, ETH Zürich, Switzerland (2021)
- MSc, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany (2016)
- BSc, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany (2014)
Research Interests: Schirra investigates mineral exploration, igneous petrology, and hydrothermal systems. His work integrates microanalytical techniques like LA-ICP-MS, SEM, and geochemical modeling to understand ore-forming processes at crustal to mantle depths. Key areas include ultra-trace element analysis in inclusions and predictive modeling for deep-seated mineral deposits.
Recent Publications: His work spans giant epithermal gold deposits, porphyry Cu-Au systems, and fluid evolution studies, emphasizing magmatic-hydrothermal linkages and isotopic analysis.
