Jean S. Cline is a Professor of Geology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), affiliated with the Department of Geoscience. Her research focuses on the physical and chemical evolution of hydrothermal ore systems, fluid inclusion analysis, and ore deposit genesis, particularly in Carlin-type gold, Climax-type molybdenum, and porphyry copper systems. She has conducted studies on fluid flux at the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository site using petrography and U-Pb geochronology.
Education: Ph.D. in Geology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (1990).
Research interests emphasize economic geology, geochemistry, and hydrothermal systems linked to igneous activity. Her work is supported by the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, and mining companies like Barrick Goldstrike Mines and Newmont Mining.
Awards include being twice honored as 'Professor Worthy of Recognition' by undergraduate students. Notable publications include studies on Carlin-type gold deposits, magmatic origins of gold systems in China, and silicification in Nevada deposits.
Teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in geochemistry, ore deposits, and field geology, including Geology 335, 330, 370, 477, and graduate-level courses like Geology 677 and 701.
