Dr. Marcel Guillong is a Lecturer at the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, ETH Zurich, affiliated with the Institute of Geochemistry and Petrology. His research focuses on geochemistry, petrology, and geochronology, with a particular emphasis on magmatic processes, ore deposits, and mantle dynamics. He teaches courses such as Analytical Methods in Petrology and Geology and Advanced Geochronology in the Autumn Semester 2025.
His work explores topics including Archean volcanism, kimberlite petrogenesis, caldera systems, and porphyry ore formation. Recent studies involve U-Pb dating of zircons, isotopic analysis of mantle-derived rocks, and fluid inclusion investigations in ore deposits. His publications appear in journals like Journal of Earth System Science and Earth and Planetary Science Letters.
Guillong’s research integrates fieldwork, laboratory geochemistry, and numerical modeling to address questions about crustal evolution, magmatic-hydrothermal systems, and resource geology. He contributes to collaborative projects on global tectonics and mineral exploration, leveraging cutting-edge analytical techniques such as LA-ICP-MS and U-Th disequilibrium dating.
