Dr. Zhaoshan Chang is a Professor and Charles F. Fogarty Endowed Chair in Economic Geology at the Colorado School of Mines. His research focuses on ore deposit geology, including skarn, porphyry, epithermal, Sn-W, IOCG, and orogenic gold systems, with an emphasis on fluid processes, magma fertility, and exploration vectors. He leads the LA-ICP-MS and SWIR spectral analysis laboratories.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Economic Geology, Washington State University, 2003
- Ph.D. in Economic Geology, Peking University, 1997
- B.Sc. in Geology, Peking University, 1992
Research Interests:
- Ore deposit genesis and exploration strategies
- Fluid inclusion analysis and LA-ICP-MS geochemistry
- Regional metallogenesis and tectonic controls
- Techniques: SWIR spectral analysis, isotope geochemistry
Recent Work Trends: Focus on high-sulfidation epithermal systems, porphyry Cu-Au-Mo deposits, and skarn zonation patterns. Articles address metamorphic overprinting (e.g., Watershed W deposit), magmatic fertility (e.g., Zaozigou Au-Sb), and machine learning applications in mineral discrimination.
