David Lentz is a Professor and Research Chair in Economic Geology within the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of New Brunswick. He holds the professional designation PGeo and is recognized as a Fellow of the Geological Association of Canada (FGC).
His research centers on magmatic-hydrothermal mineralizing processes across diverse deposit types including massive-sulphide systems (Bathurst Camp), porphyry Cu-Mo-Au, Sn-W-Mo-Au granophile systems, skarns, and Iron Oxide Apatite (IOA)/Copper-Gold (IOCG) deposits. He investigates carbonate assimilation mechanisms, volatile fluxing, and implications for Critical Minerals essential to the Green Transition, with particular focus on Li-Cs-Ta-Sn & U-REE pegmatite systems and CO2 emission dynamics.
Scientific recognition:
- Fellow of the Geological Association of Canada (FGC)
As Specialty Chief Editor for Economic Geology at Frontiers in Earth Sciences and editorial board member for multiple journals, Dr. Lentz actively shapes academic discourse. He leads the UNB Ore Geology Research Group, mentoring MSc, PhD, and postdoctoral students while directing research supported by his Research Chair appointment.
The UNB Ore Geology Research Group fosters collaborative investigations into ore deposit genesis through field studies, geochemical analysis, and experimental modeling, emphasizing practical applications for mineral exploration and sustainable resource development.
