Dr Michael Meissner is a Lecturer in Financial Law at The Dickson Poon School of Law, King's College London. He brings over 20 years of international legal and compliance experience from practice in Germany, the United States, and the European Union. Admitted to the Frankfurt and New York Bars, he has served in senior roles including partner at international law firms and Chief Compliance Officer at an ECB-supervised public bank.
His academic credentials include a PhD in Law from Saarland University and an LLM from UCLA School of Law. Prior to joining King's, he held teaching positions at London Business School, the University of St. Gallen, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Michael's research focuses on financial regulation, bank governance, compliance, risk management, and the use of artificial intelligence in anti-financial crime systems. His recent publications examine EU prudential supervision, AML system design, senior management accountability, and the functioning of the Banking Union. He is particularly interested in the intersection of governance, compliance, and financial product regulation.
His recent publications reflect a consistent focus on strengthening regulatory frameworks, improving supervisory mechanisms, and enhancing accountability within financial institutions. Themes such as automated compliance, post-Wirecard reforms, and SREP evaluations reveal a commitment to practical, policy-relevant legal scholarship.

Dr Meissner is actively involved in supervising PhD and LLM students in areas related to financial regulation, governance, and compliance. He is based at the Strand Campus of King's College London within The Dickson Poon School of Law, actively contributing to research, teaching, and public engagement in financial law.
