Professor Michael Heller is a business and organizational historian at Northumbria University, specializing in the history of work, corporate communication, and large-scale organizations. His research explores how businesses gained social and political legitimacy through practices like public relations, branding, and CSR, combining empirical and theoretical approaches. He holds a £630,000 ESRC grant for 'An Institutional History of Internal Communication in the UK,' collaborating with companies like Unilever, Boots, and the British Library.
Education: MA and PhD in History from University College London; BA (Hons) in History from the University of Cambridge. Former roles include Reader in Marketing at Brunel University and visiting lecturer positions in Shanghai and Aix-en-Provence.
Research interests include office work history, corporate branding, internal communication, and corporate heritage. He publishes in journals like Organization Studies and Business History, and edits the Palgrave Macmillan book series Debates in Business History.
