Karim Sorour is a Professor of Accounting and Corporate Governance and Deputy Head of the Accounting & Financial Management Department at Northumbria University. His research focuses on corporate governance, CSR, management accounting, and social media governance in developing countries. He holds a PhD in Corporate Governance and is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA-USA).
His editorial roles include associate editor for the corporate governance and CSR section of Cogent Business & Management Journal, and editorial board membership for Journal of Accounting in Emerging Economies. He chairs the British Accounting & Finance Association's (BAFA) special interest group on Accounting & Finance in Emerging Economies (AFEE-SIG).
Key research areas include political CSR reporting in developing countries, organizational identity through CSR communication, and compliance culture evolution in financial sectors. He has led 30+ consultancy projects improving management accounting practices in private and governmental organizations, including port governance reforms in Egyptian and Sudanese ports.
Recent projects include British Council-funded initiatives on digital financial inclusion and transnational educational programs. He supervises postgraduate research on sustainability in high-climate-risk regions and has published monographs with Palgrave Macmillan.
