Michael Cronin is the 1776 Chair of French at Trinity College Dublin (TCD), where he is also a Senior Researcher in the Trinity Centre for Literary and Cultural Translation. He holds a BA (Trinity College Dublin), MA (University College Dublin), and PhD (Trinity College Dublin) in French and translation studies. His research focuses on eco-criticism, translation theory, and Franco-Irish cultural relations. Cronin has held visiting fellowships in Canada, Belgium, Peru, France, and Egypt, and is a Fellow of TCD, a Member of the Royal Irish Academy, and an Officer in the Ordre des Palmes Académiques.
His major works include Translation and Globalization (2006), Eco-Translation (2017), and Eco-Travel (2022). His recent research explores intersections between translation and ecology, particularly in the Anthropocene era. Cronin’s publications address climate justice, posthumanism, and the role of translation in global environmental discourse.
His awards include the Routledge Encyclopedia of Translation Studies contributions (2020) and numerous fellowships. Cronin advises on translation policy and cultural diplomacy, with a focus on minority languages and climate communication. He collaborates internationally on projects linking translation studies to environmental humanities and digital media.
