Dr. Fionnuala Conway is a part-time Assistant Professor in Electronic & Electrical Engineering at Trinity College Dublin (TCD). She holds academic roles in teaching and research across multiple programs, including the M.Phil. in Music and Media Technologies (since 2002) and the MA Scoring for Film and Visual Media at Pulse College. Her work bridges creative arts and technology, focusing on interactive audio, locative media, and extended realities.
Education: B.Mus. from University College Dublin (1994), M.Phil. Music and Media Technologies (TCD, 1999), and PhD (TCD, 2008) under Prof. Linda Doyle. She has directed academic programs including the M.Phil. Music and Media Technologies (Course Director since 2006) and Pulse College’s Research Department.
Research interests span interactive installations, augmented/virtual reality, wearable technology, and audio interactivity. Notable projects include the Art of Decision exhibition (2005), Urban Chameleon (2003), and A Rainbow in the Palm of My Hand (2014). Her work explores technology’s role in social engagement, urban spaces, and creative expression.
Publications focus on interdisciplinary topics like locative audio design, augmented reality gaming, and interactive multimedia. Awards include the 2022 Agility Award (Arts Council of Ireland) and 2020 Professional Development Award. She supervises PhD research in interactive audio and teaches courses on extended realities and technologies.
Collaborations include Pulse College (DIT partnership), and projects with institutions like the Irish Museum of Modern Art. Her work emphasizes ‘VR for good’ and creative technologies for social impact.
