Professor Michael Beverland holds the position of Professor of Marketing (Strategy and Marketing) at the University of Sussex Business School, where he has served as Head of Department from 2018 to 2024. He previously held professorial roles at institutions including RMIT University, University of Bath, and University of Melbourne. His expertise lies in brand management, particularly brand authenticity and innovation, leveraging consumer culture theory to explore topics like sustainability, analog technology revival, and collective brand identity.
Education: Beverland earned a PhD from the University of South Australia, and earlier degrees from the University of Auckland, including a BCom (1989–1991), MCom (1993–1994), and DipCom (1992–1993).
Research focuses on consumer agency, marketplace authenticity, and organizational aspects of branding. Notable contributions include books like Brand Management: Co-Creating Brand Meaning (2024) and A Very Short, Fairly Interesting and Reasonably Cheap Book about Brand Management (2025).
