Michael Beverland is an Adjunct Professor at Copenhagen Business School's Department of Marketing. Born in New Zealand, he has held academic roles across Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, including positions at the University of Bath, University of Melbourne, and Monash University. Since 2018, he has also been affiliated with the University of Sussex. His research focuses on brand management, particularly brand authenticity and innovation, alongside consumer culture theory, sustainability, and design-driven manufacturing. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Marketing Management (Branding) and the Bloomsbury Fashion Business Teaching Case series.
Key research interests include marketplace authenticity, intersections of design and branding, sustainability in the sharing economy, and animal rights in consumption contexts. His work emphasizes qualitative methods while exploring interdisciplinary topics like analog technology revival and creative industries policy. Beverland has authored influential textbooks such as Brand Management: Cocreating Brand Meaning (2018) and Building Brand Authenticity.
His recent publications (2021–2024) analyze topics ranging from digital influencer branding to the paradox of surprise in gift-giving, reflecting his commitment to bridging theoretical and practical marketing challenges. Beverland’s research consistently addresses contemporary issues in consumer behavior, sustainability, and cultural consumption patterns.
