Dr. Micael-Lee Johnstone serves as a Senior Lecturer in Marketing at Victoria University of Wellington's School of Marketing and International Business. With a PhD from the University of Otago and extensive teaching experience across undergraduate, postgraduate, and distance learning programs, she has established herself as a leading researcher in sustainable consumption and green marketing.
Her educational background includes a PhD from the University of Otago, an MCom from the University of Auckland, and a BA/BCom also from the University of Auckland. This strong academic foundation has supported her research career focused on understanding consumer behavior in environmental contexts.
Johnstone's research primarily examines the complex relationship between consumer attitudes and sustainable behaviors, with particular emphasis on green marketing, environmental consumption practices, and the attitude-behavior gap. Her work frequently employs qualitative methodologies to explore how consumers perceive green products, navigate sustainability challenges, and rationalize non-green behaviors despite environmental concerns. Recent research has expanded into interdisciplinary areas including residential comfort modeling and Islamic consumer behavior.
Analysis of her publication record reveals a consistent trajectory of high-impact research in top marketing journals including the Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Consumer Behaviour, Journal of Macromarketing, and Journal of Marketing Management. Her work demonstrates increasing interdisciplinary reach, connecting marketing theory with building science, real estate economics, and religious studies.
- Best paper for the Consumer Behaviour track at the Academy of Marketing Conference, Limerick, Ireland (2015)
- Best Reviewer for the Sustainability track at ANZMAC, Brisbane, Australia (2014)
