Mia Moody-Ramirez is Professor and Chair of the Department of Journalism, Public Relations and New Media at Baylor University's College of Arts & Sciences. Since joining Baylor in 2001, she has led significant departmental advancements while maintaining an active research profile in media studies. Her interdisciplinary work bridges journalism, critical race theory, and gender studies.
Research Focus: Moody-Ramirez specializes in media representations of marginalized groups, examining how intersectionality and image repair strategies manifest in news and PR contexts. Her scholarship addresses systemic biases in communication through frameworks like critical race theory.
Academic Leadership: As chair, she spearheaded ACEJMC re-accreditation, launched new curricula including a broadcast sequence, and significantly increased student success metrics. She holds affiliate appointments in Ethnic Studies and Women & Gender Studies, and leads diversity initiatives including the Arts & Sciences DEI Committee.
