Mercedes Nadal Serrano

Dr. Mercedes Nadal Serrano is a Professor in the Department of Fundamental Biology and Health Sciences at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine. She holds a PhD from UIB (2014, with European Mention) and completed postdoctoral research at the Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) and the Illes Balears Health Research Institute Foundation (IdISBa). Her research focuses on breast cancer metastasis mechanisms, therapeutic resistance to antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and senescence reactivation strategies. She is a member of the Multidisciplinary Group of Translational Oncology (GMOT) and has co-authored over 20 scientific articles. Awards include the FOLIUM Postdoctoral Fellowship (2019-2021) and her PhD’s European Mention.

Education: BSc in Biochemistry (UIB, 2009), MSc in Advanced Microbiology (UIB, 2010), and CAP (Teaching Aptitude, 2009). She has supervised 2 Master’s and 2 Bachelor’s theses and currently co-supervises a doctoral thesis. She teaches courses in molecular biology, cancer biology, and biomedical research at undergraduate and master’s levels.

Research highlights include establishing a blood-brain barrier model for breast cancer studies and investigating ADC resistance mechanisms. Grants: 15 projects from competitive calls. Metrics: H-index 14, 646 total citations (Jan 2023).
