Melissa Plamann is a Professor of Music, University Organist, and Coordinator of Graduate Studies at Oklahoma City University. She holds the Wanda L. Bass Chair of Organ and has held academic roles including Associate Professor and instructorships at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. Her expertise spans organ performance, music theology, and global liturgical practices.
Educations:
- Bachelor's degrees in Organ Performance and English Literature from Valparaiso University
- Master of Music from Emory University
- Doctor of Music (D.M.) from Indiana University, with a thesis on Olivier Messiaen's La Nativité du Signeur
Research Interests: Dr. Plamann's work focuses on 20th/21st century organ repertoire, theological analysis of sacred music, and integrating global traditions into congregational worship. Her research has been published in The American Organist and via online articles for Augsburg Fortress.
Professional Activities: She actively performs with modern instruments and collaborates across disciplines. She serves on the executive board of the Oklahoma Alliance for Liturgy and the Arts, promoting creative liturgical collaborations.
