Brannon Hancock serves as the Dean of the Faculty and Associate Professor of Practical Theology and Worship Theology at Indiana Wesleyan University. An ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene since 2011, he also serves as worship leader and associate pastor at Marion First Church of the Nazarene. Hancock holds a PhD in the interdisciplinary study of literature, theology, and the arts from the University of Glasgow (2010), an MA Theology (2005), and a BA in Literature and Music from Trevecca Nazarene University (2002).
His research focuses on sacramental theology, liturgical practices, and the intersection of theology with technology, popular culture, film, and media. Key interests include liturgy & worship, Christian ethics, church history, and interdisciplinary conversations linking theology to the arts. He actively explores how worship practices adapt to technological shifts and engage contemporary cultural narratives.
Hancock’s publications include essays on sacramental aesthetics, film theology, and postmodern Christian thought. Recent presentations address topics like worship leadership in small churches, theological engagement with technology, and the role of worship in congregational formation. His work bridges academic theology with pastoral ministry, emphasizing practical application of theological insights.
He has led workshops at conferences such as the Wesleyan Theological Society annual meeting and the National Worship Leader Conference, focusing on topics like worship in digital spaces, congregational spiritual formation, and theological reflection on contemporary media. His musical work includes original worship compositions and collaborative projects linking music to liturgical theology.
