Dr. Melissa Pepper is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Greenwich's School of Law and Criminology under the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She joined in 2020 after completing her ESRC-funded PhD at the University of Surrey, where her thesis examined Police Support Volunteers in England.
Her research focuses on citizen participation in policing, volunteer contributions, pluralization of policing structures, and the extended police 'family'. Prior to academia, she accumulated 18 years of government social research experience at the Home Office and London Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime, leading evaluations in domestic violence, substance misuse, stop-and-search policies, and community-police engagement.
