Professor Kevin Stenson is an Honorary Professor at the University of Kent's School of Social Sciences. His research focuses on governance, crime politics, and the interplay between state and grassroots governance. He previously held professorships at Buckinghamshire New University and Middlesex University, specializing in criminology and sociology. He has contributed to national benchmarks in criminology and serves on editorial boards for journals like Critical Criminology. His recent work includes a study on youth and religion funded by the AHRC/ESRC.
Professor Stenson’s research emphasizes realist institutional analysis, exploring topics such as policing practices, community safety policies, and deprivation-linked social issues. He has supervised eight PhD students and actively engages in policy-oriented research, including studies on public spaces, probation, and stop-and-search practices. He is a member of the British Society of Criminology and the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies.
His publications analyze governance structures, risk, and crime control, with notable contributions to Theoretical Criminology and Policing: A Journal of Policy and Practice.
