Dr. David Rowlands is a Research Fellow at the ESRC Vulnerability and Policing Research Centre, University of Leeds, focusing on policing vulnerable groups and public health approaches. He holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Hudderfield (2019) and has prior experience as a substance misuse practitioner. His research explores identity processes in criminality, recovery from substance misuse, and multiagency interventions.
Current projects include mapping vulnerabilities in Bradford (led by Prof. Adam Crawford) and studying minimum policing standards for vulnerable populations (led by Prof. Ben Bradford). Prior roles include post-doctoral research at the University of Hull and Keele University, addressing domestic abuse interventions and police disproportionality.
Research interests emphasize narrative criminology, mental health in policing, and the integration of public health strategies into law enforcement. His work bridges academic insights with practical collaboration between police and healthcare organizations.
Notable collaborations include Staffordshire Police and the Keele Policing Academic Collaboration (KPAC). Professional memberships include the British Psychological Society and European Society of Criminology.
