Melissa Lago serves as a Visiting Instructor and Faculty Resident Chaplain within the Wisdom Traditions Department at Naropa University, a position she has held since 2022. She teaches across multiple programs including the BA and MA in Yoga Studies and the Master of Divinity program.
Her academic credentials are robust, featuring a BA in Political Science from Yale University, an MA in Philosophy and Religion from the California Institute of Integral Studies, and an MDiv from Harvard Divinity School.
Melissa's scholarly pursuits revolve around the confluence of yoga, spiritual care, and chaplaincy. Her thesis, Yoga Transforms Us: Building Resiliency and Intrinsic Spiritual Reliance through Yoga, underscores her commitment to exploring yoga's role in fostering resilience and spiritual autonomy. She delves deeply into yogic and tantric meditation traditions, death and dying rituals, and contemplative communication practices.
Her publication What Does It Mean to be Awake? (2018) exemplifies her interdisciplinary approach, weaving together religious studies, philosophy, and spirituality to examine consciousness and awakening.
