Melissa Labonte is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Fordham University's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. She specializes in the United Nations system, humanitarian politics, peacebuilding, multilateral peace operations, conflict resolution, human rights, and West African politics.
- Education: Ph.D. and A.M. in Political Science from Brown University; B.A. in Political Science from Syracuse University
Her research focuses on international organizations, human rights, and post-conflict recovery, with fieldwork in Sierra Leone and broader West/East African transitions. She has contributed to journals like African Affairs, Global Governance, and Third World Quarterly.

Dr. Labonte held leadership roles at Fordham, including Interim Dean (2019-2020) and Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives (2016-2018). She also advised Freedom House (2013-2019), served on the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's Advisory Committee, and contributed to UN General Assembly research on Security Council reform and the Responsibility to Protect.
