Dr. David Harris is an Associate Professor in the School of Social Sciences at the University of Bradford, part of the Faculty of Management, Law & Social Sciences. He specialises in West African politics, with a focus on Sierra Leone, Liberia, The Gambia, and Ghana. His work spans conflict and elections, post-conflict state rebuilding, and India-Africa relations. He holds roles including Director of JEFCAS (2018–present) and previously served as Senior Lecturer (2019) and Lecturer in African Studies (2013–2019).
Education: Formerly at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London. Teaching includes modules on African politics, security dynamics, and global development. Collaborative research has secured a £50,000 grant (2020) for research in The Gambia and Ghana. He has co-authored over 18 publications, including books and peer-reviewed articles on post-conflict governance, electoral processes, and India-Africa relations.
Professional activities include election monitoring for the Carter Center and NDI, work with European government departments and NGOs, and media contributions to Channel 4 and African Arguments. He was an External Examiner at King’s College London (2013–2017) and served on the editorial board of the Journal of Sierra Leone Studies.
