Carrie Reiling

Dr. Carrie Reiling is an Associate Professor of Political Science & International Studies at Washington College. Her research focuses on international relations, African politics, and feminist theory, particularly examining UN Security Council policies like the Women, Peace, and Security agenda in West Africa. She holds a PhD from the University of California, Irvine (2017), and has conducted fieldwork in Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, and Sierra Leone with support from Fulbright and NSF grants. She also coordinates external fellowships at Washington College and serves as the Academic Network Coordinator for the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF).

Her research interests intersect gender analysis, environmental governance, and feminist methodologies. She explores how local women’s NGOs collaborate with international actors to advance peace and security in conflict-affected regions. Recent work incorporates feminist political ecology to address environmental policy challenges in the Global South. Her teaching spans international organizations, African politics, peace studies, and global environmental politics.

Her publications analyze migration policy in Morocco, West African women’s roles in peacebuilding, and methodological approaches to conflict research. She emphasizes pragmatic critiques of international policy implementation and advocates for inclusive research practices.

In advising and grants, she supports student applications for national fellowships and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration. She leads the Competitive Fellowships Program at Washington College and maintains active engagement with WILPF’s global academic networks.
