Dr. Melike Durmaz is a Lecturer and Doctoral Lecturer at the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Yeditepe University. She holds a PhD (2014) and Master's (2014) degree from Yeditepe University's Institute of Social Sciences, focusing on political philosophy. Her thesis explored the concept of koinonia in Aristotle, Heidegger, and Arendt. She teaches courses in Political Philosophy, Ethics, and Philosophy of Science in English, and coordinates Erasmus programs at the university level.
Her research focuses on ancient Greek political thought (Aristotle), modern political philosophy (Hannah Arendt), and the ethical dimensions of political action. She has published extensively on concepts like plurality, citizenship, and ontological foundations of political communities. Her work bridges classical and contemporary political theory, emphasizing interdisciplinary connections between ethics and political ontology.
Academic service includes roles as Department Deputy Chair, Faculty Erasmus Coordinator, and University Erasmus Coordinator. She has supervised one Master's thesis (2024) exploring radical evil in Kantian ethics and Arendtian political philosophy. Her recent conference presentations (2021) address Arendt's concepts of action and public sphere, reflecting her ongoing engagement with modern political thought.
