Melanie Lovell is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), affiliated with the Faculty of Health and the IMPACCT research centre (Improving Palliative, Aged and Chronic Care through Clinical Research and Translation). Her work focuses on palliative care innovations, oncology pain management, and clinical trial methodologies. She is available for supervision of Masters and PhD students.
Her research interests span medicinal cannabis applications in palliative care, ethical dimensions of end-of-life care, and implementation strategies for clinical guidelines in cancer settings. Recent projects include evaluating spiritual interventions in palliative care and assessing pain management fidelity in cancer centers.
Key funded research includes a phase III clinical education intervention trial to improve cancer pain outcomes (2017-2021), a feasibility study for lignocaine in neuropathic cancer pain (2017-2025), and a national clinical pathway for breast cancer pain management (2015-2020).
Melanie collaborates across disciplines, contributing to evidence-based practices in palliative care and oncology through multi-institutional studies. Her grants total over $AUD 4 million from bodies like Cancer Australia and the NHMRC.
