Professor Meera Agar holds the position of Professor of Palliative Medicine and Director of the IMPACCT Centre at the University of Technology Sydney. Her roles include leading a 30+ researcher team, clinical practice as a senior palliative care physician, and directing the South West Sydney Local Health District's palliative care service. She graduated in Medicine with honours from the University of Adelaide (2004 RACP Fellowship), holds a Master of Palliative Care, and earned a doctorate focused on delirium in advanced illness.
Her research interests span delirium management, geriatric oncology, and symptom management in cancer/chronic illness. She leads major national clinical trials and has secured sustained NHMRC funding. Awards include the European Association for Palliative Care Early Career Researcher Award and teaching accolades from Australia's Learning & Teaching Council.
IMPACCT offers postgraduate palliative care programs emphasizing interdisciplinary training. Professor Agar has supervised doctoral students progressing to senior roles, while internationally she contributes to palliative care initiatives like the Lien Collaborative and India's National Cancer Grid. Key funded programs include delirium prevention trials (DAMPen-D II) and geriatric oncology studies.
