Mariana de Souza e Sousa

Dr. Mariana Sousa is a Chancellor's Postdoctoral Research Fellow at IMPACCT, University of Technology Sydney. A physician and researcher with clinical training in oncology, she focuses on cancer cachexia management and palliative care innovation.

Her research develops interventions to:

• Improve nutritional/functional states in cancer patients
• Create competency frameworks for cachexia care (CAXCare)
• Enhance multidisciplinary approaches to wasting syndromes
• Evaluate pharmacological interventions like anamorelin

Her publications systematically examine clinical endpoints and care models in cachexia research.

She coordinates a phase II clinical trial on anorexia in small-cell lung cancer and develops educational resources for healthcare professionals.
