Meifan Amy Chen, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky, affiliated with the Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Center (SCoBIRC) and the Department of Neuroscience. Her research focuses on reactive astrocyte functions, regulation, and diversity in the context of central nervous system (CNS) injuries, aiming to harness their therapeutic potential for neural repair.
- Education:
- University of California, Berkeley - B.A. in Molecular & Cell Biology
- University of California, San Diego - Ph.D. in Molecular Pathology
- University of California, San Diego - Postdoctoral Fellow
- University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center - Instructor
Dr. Chen employs mouse genetics, spinal cord injury models, behavioral analyses, and genomic techniques to investigate how astrogliosis is regulated, how reactive astrocytes influence neurons and glia post-injury, and therapeutic targeting strategies. She works within the SCoBIRC, a premier center for neurotrauma research.
